Product Review | Korres Wild Rose Sleeping Facial

Kim November 8, 2017

The Philosophy

Korres is a brand who I believe are extremely under the radar. They are a thoughtful, safe, effective brand who pride themselves on their potent ingredients and skincare technology. They focus on 4 areas:

  1. Precious extracts - where they use cold extraction processes, recycle all forms of the plant, and utilitse precious botanicals native to Greece.

  2. Advanced research - where they test the same way pharmaceuticals would test to ensure product safety and efficacy. They also ensure the product has natural ingredients.

  3. Thoughtful formulas - including tests for dermatologists, opthomologists and excluding preservatives by using anti-microbial ingredients

  4. Passion - whether it's for research, ingredients, environment and skin.

The Product

A brightening night cream infused with wild rose oil that evens out skin tone, repairs fine lines, moisturizes, heals, and softens skin. This face cream with vitamin C also helps minimize the appearance of skin discolorations and black spots. More than a mask, more than a night cream, this overnight facial-in-a-jar delivers brighter skin by morning.

From <https://www.korres.com/en/best-sellers/wild-rose-advanced-repair-sleeping-facial>

It's meant to do a lot! What I was most fascinated about was the brightening and lightening of skin discolouration. Gotta keep the skin looking even!

The Application

Surprisingly, the cream itself is unlike any other night cream. It feels like a thickened cream texture initially but when you rub the cream into the skin it feels like little water bubbles are being absorbed. It sinks in beautifully and leaves a lovely glow to the skin without feeling overly greasy. The smell is to die for! (that's if you like the smell of rose). It's not like that old grandma rose scent, it has a more natural feel to it.

The Result

I always love the results of an overnight anything because you can really see the results when you wake up. I think it has to do with the fact you don't see your skin for a solid 8 hours. I was amazed by how plump my skin felt and looked. It was incredibly soft to touch and not sticky at all. I didn't even want to wash my face in the morning for fear of removing the suppleness of my skin. Honestly, my skin looked like it was a little dry in that I was a little matte. It didn't feel that way though which is a bonus! Fine lines were gone and pores were well and truly diminished (and for all those who know me - yes, I do have pores).

The Rundown

The key ingredients in this product are the wild rose extract and the encapsulated wax technology.

The wild rose extract is 9x more potent than the vitamin C found in an orange. Super C has 1000x more absorption in the skin than regular ascorbic acid because of its ability to mimic the natural lipid barrier and react with the skin's metabolism to form ascorbic acid deeper in the skin layers.

What this really means - the wild rose vitamin C enters the skin and reacts with the skin's natural barrier. That reaction releases L-ascorbic acid into the skin at a deeper level. This is opposed to when you put L-ascorbic acid straight onto the skin and it loses some of its efficacy because it's going through the initial layers.

You can even see Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate - and oil-soluble form of vitamin C that can really get into the pores and be absorbed deeper into the skin.

Seriously amazing use of ingredients, I am slightly skeptical of the wild rose vitamin C as I haven't seen much research on it.

There is a mix of waxy oils including sunflower, jojoba and beeswax. What struck me was the speargrass extract Imperata cylindrica. This ingredient is known to be a much more effective way to deliver hydration into the skin. This, along with other hydrating ingredients and antioxidants, is encapsulated in these waxes so that it can melt and release hydration as your body heats up and cools down at night. Fascinating!

Water, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Alcohol Denat., Triheptanoin, Behenyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cera Alba/Beeswax/Cire D'abeille, Lecithin, Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract, Acacia Decurrens/Jojoba/Sunflower Seed Wax/Polyglyceryl-3 Esters, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Caprylyl Glycol, Carbomer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Citronellol, Distarch Phosphate, Eugenol, Fragrance, Galactoarabinan, Geraniol, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Phenoxyethanol, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Rosa Rubiginosa Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Sodium Gluceptate, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum.

Definitely give this little buddy a try, I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Advice | Remind Yourself of Your Goals
January 13, 2021

The start of the new year is always a challenge, especially for freelancing. You come off the high from the crazy working hours of the holiday period only to be met with the low season of the new year. Motivation is low as we enter back into the work year. Like many, I experienced this slump during the first few weeks of 2021.

Top 5 | Tinted Moisturisers
November 19, 2020

I've compiled a list of my top 5 tinted moisturisers for both myself and clients. 99% of the time, I'm living in a tinted moisturiser because of the ease and natural sheen it adds to my skin. The recent trend toward more natural looking makeup is a train I can definitely jump on board with. These products have been tried and tested. They provide the right amount of oomph and mojo for me to even write about them, that’s saying something.

Product Review | Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner
August 23, 2020

Korean skincare is no easy feat. The difference between Western vs. Eastern skincare is the cultural buying habits. Western skincare love ingredients and statistical claims, whereas Eastern beauty prefer the layering of multiple products, texture, and packaging. Ingredients have recently become a trend in the Asian market which is why you see more brands using key ingredients to market their products.

Advice | What Would You Do With $500?
April 30, 2019

When I earn money from a job, its so hard not to spend it all on products. Being in the beauty industry, you easily get sucked into new, shiny, products to stock in your kit. There are thousands of influencers and makeup artists who have holy grail items and you get tempted buying all of it in the hopes that your artistry will look the same. This was a downward spiral that I did NOT want to be stuck in. I wasn't saving money and my 'investment' back into my kit wasn't getting me the results I wanted.

A new favourite added to the collection. It literally combines all the scents I grew up with. It’s insanely fresh whilst enveloping you in a warm spicy cloud. I prefer scents that aren’t overpowering to my nose but still remain interesting (especially if you stand close by). @shiro_japan Spice of Life
