The Philosophy
I've always perceived Eve Lom as a high-end, luxury brand that is just nice to apply on the skin. After using their Brightening range, I realised there was so much more to the brand. Their philosophy is centred on boosting radiance in the skin regardless of your age. Eve Lom has a reputation for being a well-known facialist. It's no wonder her products feel like you're in a spa.
The Brightening range is targeted toward one of the first signs of ageing - dullness. They believe (as everyone should) that dullness and age spots need to be addressed in order to look more youthful. This line focuses on controlling the production of melanin, increasing hydration and boosting luminosity in the skin. Sounds so legit.
The Products
Brightening Lotion
The Brightening Lotion is like your essence step. It helps to pre-hydrate your skin so your serum can be absorbed faster. This is a kick-ass lotion. It claims to brighten, mattify and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles
Advanced Brightening Serum
This serum is meant to be the juicy layer in the skincare regime, delivering a high concentration of intense ingredients. It's meant to visibly reduce the appearance of age spots, reduce surface scars, boost luminosity, refine skin texture, and improve uneven skin tone.
Brightening Moisturiser
The last step to the routine works to correct the pigmentation and even out the complexion. It's a super lightweight gel-cream consistency that is meant to be the top coat to this range.
The Application
The lotion was a light, milky, watery texture. It was smooth and absorbed very quickly on my skin. Like an essence, you're meant to have a few pumps on the hand and pat it into the skin. This was easy enough. It also had a slight, rose fragrance to it - which can be seen across almost all of Eve Lom's products
The serum was a thicker, yellow liquid. I seriously thought my bottle had gone off. I was expecting a white serum. This one was actually really pleasant to apply. It was hydrating and gave my skin a slight glow (nothing greasy). You only need a pump of this, a little goes a long way. Again, it had a signature Eve Lom scent.
Lastly the moisturiser, it was like a cloud. Unlike the TLC cream from their range, this moisturiser was incredibly lightweight. The spatula was a bonus! I only used half a spatula and that was enough for my entire face. The texture is like a gel-cream and absorbs fairly quickly. In my routine, I mixed it with a bit of Josie Maran's Argan Oil to give it a boost.
The Result
I had been using the lotion for a few months before applying the serum and moisturiser. When I added the serum and moisturiser to the routine, I noticed my acne scarring had significantly faded away (after around 3-4 weeks). My skin was definitely glowing the whole time I was using these products. I loved how each one felt after application and when I woke up in the morning. My skin was left feeling supple, bouncy, and ultra soft. I also saw a lit-from-within look that I can only achieve using certain products like masks and oils. I loved using this range and can't wait for the 2-month results.
The Rundown
I've posted the ingredients lists of all the products below (courtesy of evvelom.com) and have highlighted some of the more intriguing ingredients.
- DERMAPEP (METHYL UNDECENOYL LEUCINATE)- A powerful, brightening ingredient that blocks melanin production. I found out that this ingredient doesn't need to have a high percentage in order for it to work. The smallest amount, used regularly, will see the difference.
- MICRO ALGAE EXTRACT - a powerful cocktail of amino acids that work to stimulate cell turnover resulting in a more energised complexion.
- BETAINE - a natural anti-inflammatory that has dual action to calm skin and promote water retention
- LIQUORICE ROOT EXTRACT (DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZATE)- a natural ingredient renowned for it’s anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-irritant and antioxidant benefits
- ZINC PCA - helps to control sebum production and prevent the breakdown of collagen
- CRANVE ABYSSINICA SEED OIL - a non-greasy, emollient ingredient, derived from mustard seeds.
The one thing I was concerned with was the amount of propanediol - it's a known ingredient that can cause irritation around the eyes. I think that it why I may have some dermatitis there… I'll be sure to pay extra attention around my eyes. Wouldn't recommend to someone with sensitive eyes.
On the plus side, I loved the high concentration of vitamin C and niacinamide in the serum. That combined with a tonne of anti-inflammatories, and you've got yourself a cocktail of brightness.
