Product Review | Tatcha Silk Canvas

Kim July 16, 2018

What I really love about the Tatcha products is their authenticity to their customers. They are a brand who truly put their customer's needs first and I genuinely believe that. From their detail in packaging to their notes from the founder Vicky Tsai. It's a brand you really have to get on board with.

The Product

When they announced their release of a primer, I was squealing with excitement. Inspired by the makeup process of geiko in Japan, this primer has a mix of silk and waxes mimicking the wax layer that would be pressed onto the skin before the heavy white makeup. Because of the thick consistency of the traditional wax geiko use, Tatcha decided to blend the waxes with silk proteins, camellia extract, rice ferment and the Hadasei 3 complex (consisting of green tea, rice and, algae).

The Application

The primr has a beautiful smoothing effect and leaves the skin supple and smooth. Unlike other silicone-type primers I found this one to be quite hydrating and soothing. I had recently experienced a bit of eczema and tiny red dots around my eye are and this primer helped to calm it down and prevent it from getting worse on the days I wore makeup. It blends beautifully into the skin and a little goes a long way! As per instructions, you only need half a pea size and you dot it all over the face, including eyes and lips.

The Result

As someone who doesn't wear primers on a day to day basis, this is definitely something that has converted me. I never used to notice the longevity of my makeup because I had naturally dry skin. In thinking that my skin only needed to be hydrated for my makeup to last long, I shied away from them. The Silk Canvas not only kept my foundation and face products on, it helped to keep my eye makeup and lipstick on. It smoothed my skin and felt ultra-lightweight. I was extremely surprised and have now incorporated it into my daily routine.

The Rundown

Cyclopentasiloxane, Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Saccharomyces/Camellia Sinensis Leaf/Cladosiphon Okamuranus/Rice Ferment Filtrate*, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Propanediol, Dimethicone, Ceresin, Titanium Dioxide, Squalane, Dimethicone/Peg-10/15 Crosspolymer, Sericin, Hydrolyzed Silk, Silk Powder, Caesalpinia Spinosa Fruit Extract, Kappaphycus Alvarezii Extract, Yeast Extract, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Zinc Stearate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Peg/Ppg-18/18 Dimethicone, Peg-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Biosaccharide Gum-4, Disodium Edta, Silica, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Parfum/Fragrance, Isopropyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Mica (Ci 77019), Tin Oxide (Ci 77861), Iron Oxide (Ci 77491)

You can definitely notice the presence of waxes and silicones which is fair considering its a primer that smooths the skin. What makes it different is the high percentage of great ingredients like silk and the Hadasei 3 complex. Showing that the skin is still getting those great ingredients while sealing and protecting the skin from makeup. Kappaphycus Alvarezii (Algae) is still quite high on the list and probably explains why my skin felt soft and supple from the hydration. The fragrance and alcohol in there is not enough to harmfully damage the skin and is most likely there as a form of natural fragrance.

I hope you guys give this a try, before it sells out again, and let me know if you see any changes in the skin. Would love to know everyone else's thoughts!

I saw myself constantly gravitating toward these pencils and so I felt the need to review. Extremely blendable and versatile, the @makeupforever Pencils have now become a staple in my kit. I can’t wait for some fun colours to be released. Shades mentioned: ✨ Endless Cacao (greyish brown) ✨ Limitless Brown (warm, dark brown) ✨ Wherever Walnut (neutral rose) ✨ Anywhere Caffeine (warm spice brown)

A new favourite added to the collection. It literally combines all the scents I grew up with. It’s insanely fresh whilst enveloping you in a warm spicy cloud. I prefer scents that aren’t overpowering to my nose but still remain interesting (especially if you stand close by). @shiro_japan Spice of Life
