Top 5 | Tinted Moisturisers

As the warmer months start to roll in, our skin transitions into a more humid climate. What does this mean? Since there is more moisture in the air combined with higher temperatures, our skin holds more moisture and shine. Sun's out bun's out. We wear lighter makeup, exposed to more Vitamin D and, let's face it, get more sweaty.

I've compiled a list of my top 5 tinted moisturisers for both myself and clients. 99% of the time, I'm living in a tinted moisturiser because of the ease and natural sheen it adds to my skin. The recent trend toward more natural looking makeup is a train I can definitely jump on board with. These products have been tried and tested. They provide the right amount of oomph and mojo for me to even write about them, that’s saying something.

1. IT Cosmetics CC Cream

Wow, this product packs a heavy punch. I often use this product when I'm needing heavier coverage without looking heavy on the skin. Created out of necessity for consumers who suffer from redness or hyperpigmentation, the CC cream is meant to reduce redness whilst providing skin benefits like SPF and hydration. The texture is creamy and smooths over pores beautifully. For an international product, the CC cream retains it's high SPF of 50 + in Australia, which is very impressive considering our strict standards. Of course, you should always use a separate SPF and never rely on your makeup one. The only downside is, due to it's thick nature, it clings to my pores around my nose, making them appear raised. It doesn't happen on my clients so it must be me. I usually gravitate towards this one when I know I will be in the sun a lot or on clients who want to even their skin tone and texture.

2. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

A classic for many makeup artists and consumers a like. I first tried this about 5 years ago and thought nothing of it. It was only when I travelled overseas with it where I came to my senses and noticed it's epicness. It's such a beautiful texture with a sheer-sheer medium finish. It's water-based formula imparts a healthy skin glow whilst keeping the skin bouncy and hydrated. You'll never feel like it's too heavy or looks like too much makeup on the skin because it sinks so naturally into your complexion. My favourite thing to do is pair it with a full coverage concealer/foundation buffed in the centre of the face. That way I get the glow from the tinted moisturiser with the right coverage of my foundation. Healthy complexion always!

3. NARS Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

A new favourite to my collection. I've used this many times when I was in retail but never applied this on myself until this year. It has quickly become my go-to foundation as it provides just enough coverage, smooths over my skin beautifully and stays radiant all day. I do wish the SPF was approved for AUS standards, but that it just me being nitpicky. I can't rave about this one enough! It's a bit heavier than the Laura Mercier one but I want that for the days I look less than best.

4. Chantecaille Just Skin

We're headed into fancy territory here. Chantecaille is not the most affordable brand but wow does it deliver some healthy skin. Not for those looking for coverage as it provides a very sheer, glowy finish. It's great for people who want to wear a touch of makeup to look alive, refreshed and healthy. Oh wait, we're talking about makeup here. But seriously, it delivers a beautiful texture and finish to the skin and is infused with skincare to ensure your skin is absorbing something healthy. Worth the investment if you want even, freshly enhanced skin. I often use this with a bit of foundation on my mature clients and it works a treat.

5. Amore Pacific Cushion Compact

Not in the tinted moisturiser territory but I had to mention this goodie. I love these for my handbag. They're a great way to touch up your SPF and foundation during the day. I would say Amore gives a radiant finish with a sheer to medium coverage. The skin looks hydrated and perfected. Sometimes I need a bit more coverage, so I opt for a full coverage concealer in the right places. The sponge itself makes a great blender for on-the-go makeup. Remember to always wash the sponges too!
