Top 5 | Podcasts for Beauty Creatives

If you're a sucker for all things beauty brand-related and are interested in the back story behind all your favourite products, these podcasts are the best ones to listen to. I have a very specific style that I enjoy listening to, one that travels through a person's journey and their obstacles in becoming successful. These are my top 5 podcasts that I listen to daily to get me inspired and pumped for those long days at work, admin days or even just a relaxing drive.

  1. Fat Mascara

Binge-worthy content. I'm a super late bloomer to the Fat Mascara fam, but that just meant I had a lot of content to listen to! What a podcast. Well-thought-out questions, a wide range of beauty topics, and a wonderful dynamic duo to guide you the whole way. They interview EVERYONE you would want to hear about, from brand founders to makeup artists they've got it all.  It's a beautifully curated with their journalistic flair, leaving us with the right amount of info and goss on all the hot brands. The production quality remains professional and easy to listen to. I dead set listened to half the content on my long-haul flight to NYC and it was worth it!

  2. Breaking Beauty

Another dynamic duo who produce fun content with a great variety of guests. Similar to Fat Mascara in that they interview brand founders, high-performers in the beauty industry, doctors, etc. And ask the real questions we've always wanted to ask. What puts Breaking Beauty at the second spot is their podcast style. I'm one to listen to a whole interview and enjoy every minute detail the guest has to say. Breaking Beauty edits their interviews so you listen to short snippets that help round out their podcast. I would love to hear a full interview as minor details get lost on the cutting room floor.

  3. The Emma Guns Show

One of the first beauty podcasts I ever listened to. This was back in my skincare days where I would heavily research ingredients and scientists about products, skin health, and body health. Emma Guns has a beautiful way of interviewing each guest. She's well researched and asks amazing questions that lead down great rabbit holes for you to discover. Initially, her episodes centred around colour beauty, skin care, and a little self-care. She's moved to a more holistic approach to her podcast, filling up episodes with dermatologists, topics on hormones, self-care, and challenges. I listen to it a lot less now but still enjoy a few episodes here and there.

  4. Glow Journal

I had to give a shout out to a fellow Australian. The Glow Journal provides great content on brand founders who make the long journey to Australia to promote their products. The episodes don't keep you in for too long, but enough to get you inspired by how a brand gets started in the industry. There is an emphasis on interviewing Australian brands (as they are more readily available to interview) and you'll get the occasional international thrown in the mix. The blog is very international and has some awesome content if you’re in need of a beauty fix, which is always. The interview style is very curated with questions that don't dive deep into origin stories but overall a great listen.

  5. The James Altucher Show

This one isn't for beauty lovers, instead, its for the business minds. As a freelancer, I find myself reading more and more business books and podcasts as they help me run (essentially) my own business. James Altucher has possibly my favourite interview-style out of all the podcasts. It may seem annoying to some, but he has a knack for interrupting his guests so that they dive deep into the rabbit hole of their story. It's wonderfully interesting to listen to as you find you've never heard content like it before. I enjoy listening to people I read, Robert Greene, Ryan Holiday, Seth Godin, etc., then I would listen to his wide range of comedians. They give an insight into how hard you have to work to become successful, the different ways you can get to your end goal, and (more importantly) how often successful people fail. James Altucher is no stranger to failure, which is why I enjoy his podcast so much. He really highlights people's obstacles and allows you to have a realistic outcome in your own career. Worth a listen!
